Ana Paula Afonso is a Tenured Assistant Professor at the Informatics Department of the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon, an integrated researcher at LASIGE (Large-Scale Informatics Systems Laboratory), since 1998 and a member of the SpatioTemporal Analytics Research interest group. She holds a degree in Computer Science from University of Lisbon in 1988 and a PhD in Informatics from the same University in 2004, in the field of Mobile Computing.

She teaches subjects like Mobile Computing, Web Applications and Services, Software Engineering Project, among others. She has published more than 70 refereed scientific papers and her research interests include spatial-temporal visualization, visual analytics of movement, interactive visualization, mobility, and context-awareness and recommendation. She has participated in several R&D projects, funded by National scientific agencies, and cooperation with industry projects. She has supervised more than 60 post-graduation students, and two PhD finished. She has participated in the evaluation committee of post-graduation student and national PhD committees.
